Contemporary Africian and Africian Disapora

Norman Parish, an artist, and graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, primarily, but not exclusively, represents leading visual artists of significance from Africa and the Africian Diaspora. In selecting art and artist, Parish exercises high ethical, curatorial and market selection standards, catering to the spirit of social preservation and regeneration in collecting art. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon until 6 pm and by appointment.

"Dutch Auction - Bid Down Not Up'

Parish Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition by gallery artists participating in a Dutch auction. This show entitled “Dutch Auction – Bid Down Not Up” will open with a reception from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20th and will run thru February 29, 2012. Other dates for gallery visits will be announced on www.parishgallery.com. Bid on line – bid by phone – come see the art and bid in the gallery. Bid down and not up!!! A Dutch Auction is a type of auction where the auctioneer begins with an asking price which is lowered until some participant is willing to accept the auctioneer’s price or a predetermined reserve price (the seller’s minimum acceptable price) is reached. The winning participant pays the last announced price. Works of mid-career thru master artists will be presented: Louis Delsarte, Antonio Carreńo, Edward McCluney, Kenneth Pasley, Yvette Watson, Nature, Eugene Martin, Nurieh Mozaffari, Kenneth Young, Richard Mayhew, Herbert Gentry, Edward Clark, Allen Stringfellow, William Pajaud, and many others. Art works by these artists have been shown at Parish Gallery at sometime over the past 20 years. This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire important works of art by such an illustrious group of artists.

"Instinct of Desire"

Parish Gallery is pleased to present internationally recognized African painter, Bethel Aniaku, who was born in Lomé, Togo. This exhibition entitled “Instinct of Desire”. This exhibition will open with a reception from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, March 16th and will run through April 17, 2012. Mr. Aniaku’s compositions concentrate on capturing present reality by using the abstract, using various materials, and playing with color, light and space. He honors the trade of his carpenter ancestors by using wood as the base for his paintings. His inspiration comes from everyday experiences and life. Mr. Aniaku was represented at the Francophonie 2011 Cultural Festival in Washington, D.C., he is also represented by the Contemporary Art Museum of Hiroshima, Japan; B.C.E.A.O. Bank, Dakar, Senegal; Tokyo Museum, Tokyo, Japan; The Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.; and Mbari Institute; Washington, D.C..
